How do I look up a Medicare provider?
Search by name and state, by NPI, or by city and specialty above. Every result shows the provider’s NPI record and a Medicare status panel: enrollment, revalidation due date, ordering and referring, and opt-out.
Is the NPI the same as a Medicare provider number?
Medicare uses the NPI on claims. Medicare also assigns an internal enrollment ID (the PTAN) that isn’t published in these files; the provider or their billing office can give it to you.
How is this different from Medicare.gov Care Compare?
Care Compare is built for patients choosing a doctor, with quality information. This lookup is built for checking status: enrollment, ordering eligibility, opt-out and exclusion lists in one result, with a dated record you can email to yourself.
Does it show whether a doctor takes my Medicare Advantage plan?
No. Medicare Advantage networks are kept by each plan. Use your plan’s provider directory or call the plan.
